Handbook of
Internet Crime Edited
by Yvonne Jewkes
(University of Leicester) and Majid Yar (University of
Hull)
An
essential reference for scholars and others whose work brings
them into contact with managing, policing and regulating
online behaviour, the Handbook of Internet Crime emerges at a
time of rapid social and technological change.
'The virtual ubiquity of the
Internet has transformed many aspects of global social and
technological lives within an unprecedented short timespan.
With it, it has brought a parallel realm of criminal and
deviant behaviour requirinf multi-faceted governance and
regulatory response. The Handbook of Internet Crime shines a
welcome light on this plethora of issues, encompasses the wide
range of key topics in this increasingly complex area of study
and makes a major contribution to scholarship in the
field.' - Dr Stefan
Fafinski, Brunel University

Why We Kill Understanding violence across cultures and
disciplines Edited
by Nancy Loucks
(Families Outside), Sally
Smith Holt (Belmont University) and Joanna R. Adler (Middlesex
University)
Formerly published by Middlesex University
Press
Infanticide, serial killings, war,
terrorism, abortion, honour killings, euthanasia, suicide
bombings and genocide; all involve taking of life. Put most
simply, all involve killing one or more other people. For such
an evolved species, human beings can be violent far beyond the
point of inhumanity. Why We Kill:
Understanding violence across cultures and disciplines
examines this violence in many of its manifestations,
exploring how culture plays a role in people'a understanding
of violent action.
From the first chapter, which tries
to understand multiple forms of domestic homicide including
infanticide, filicide, spousal homicide and honour killings,
to the final chapter's bone-chilling account of the massacre
at Murambi in Rwanda, this fascinating book makes compelling
reading.

Reducing Terrorism Through Situational Crime
Prevention Edited by Joshua D. Freilich (The
University at Albany, New York) and Graeme R. Newman (The
University at Albany, New York) Crime Prevention Studies Vol. 25
(Co-published with Criminal Justice
Press)
This
volume applies the principles of situational crime prevention
(SCP) to terrorism and it features cutting-edge theoretical
and empirical pieces. Chapters focus on: terrorism by
right-wing and left-wing extremists in the U.S., the conflicts
in Iraq and Northern Ireland, foreign policy through an SCP
lens, intelligence-led policing, the crimes of kidnapping and
hostage taking, ideologically motivated tax refusal and
cybercrime. Sources of original data include research projects
such as the government-funded American Terrorism Study, and
the U.S. Extremist Crime Study. Derek Cornish's "script
method" is applied in a number of case studies, and Ronald
Clarke and Graeme Newman's "EVIL DONE" concept is
operationalized and refined. The authors represent a mix of
leading SCP scholars and noted terrorism researchers.

Domestic Violence - Working With Men Research,
experience, practice and integrated
responses Edited by Andrew Day (University of
South Australia), Donna Chung
(University of Warwick), Donna Justo (Gold Coast
Domestic Violence Prevention Centre) and Patrick O'Leary (University
of Bath) Published by Federation Press, distributed
by Willan Publishing.
Surveys suggest that around one
third of all adult women will at some point in their life
experience abuse perpetrated by an intimate male partner. In
recent years a number of 'integrated responses' to domestic
violence have been developed which are coordinated,
appropriate, consistent responses aimed at enhancing victim
safety, reducing secondary victimisation and holding abusers
accountable for their violence. An increasingly important part
of integrated responses is the delivery of interventions for
male perpetrators of violence. In this book contributions come
from those working with victims of domestic violence, from
within the criminal justice system and integrated response
programs. They describe and discuss the provision of programs
and services that are designed to reduce the risk of domestic
violence amongst known perpetrators. Outcome data, theoretical
and clinical issues relevant to program delivery are discussed
in detail.
Domestic Violence - Working With Men
provides a timely resource in the development of programs and
services to reduce the risk of known perpetrators committing
further acts of violence towards women.

Domestic Violence in Rural Australia Sarah
Wendt Published by Federation Press, distributed by
Willan Publishing.
This book paints a picture about
domestic violence in rural Australia, drawing on research that
has been conducted over the last 2 decades as well as the
author's research in rural communities in South
Australia.
It provides an analysis of how rural
communities have been understood historically and examines
social/cultural constructions of 'rural culture' overtime.
Wendt draws heavily on women's and human service workers'
stories about their experiences of domestic violence in rural
contexts to argue the importance of recognising local culture
when forming community responses to domestic
violence.
The book is written for those involved in
social care practice in rural communities, policy development,
and tertiary students.
